Governance
Committee
The choir is managed by a committee made up of a President, a Vice-President, a Secretary, a Treasurer and up to five other choir members. The current committee is:
President: Nora Baylis
Vice President: Vacant
Secretary: Pauline Watson
Treasurer: Helen Nicholson
Member: Christine Wilson
Member: Helen Weir
Our Constitution
The governance document is our constitution (see below) The choir is registered with The Office of Scottish Charities Register (OSCR). Committee members are the Trustees of the charity for OSCR purposes which means they must ensure that the charity is well run. The names of trustees have to be part of the OSCR record and changes to the trustees, including applicable dates must be reported. Changes to the constitution must be agreed with OSCR. The main benefit of registration with OSCR is that, with the agreement of each member and where it is appropriate (ie where the member pays sufficient Income Tax to warrant it), we can claim a refund (known as Gift Aid) for the amount of tax paid on the membership fee. This means that we can claim back from OSCR close to 20% of the membership fees paid.
OSCR requires registered organisations to submit to them an Annual Account, the Independent Examiner's Report on the account and an Annual Trustees Report. OSCR's preference is that these reports and the governance document are available for the public to see on the charity's website.
